The Taxotere Cases: Greed at Its Worst

Something that has been kind of bugging me lately is the lawsuits I see filed against the company that makes taxotere. If you don’t know, taxotere is chemotherapy that they give you if you have breast cancer, or other types of cancer. The problem is that is causes hair loss. I know, you’re probably thinking, doesn’t all chemo cause hair loss? Well the problem here is that the hair loss is permanent!

That’s right, the hair just doesn’t grow back at all. This is a condition known as alopecia. Even treatments like rogaine don’t help. No one knows for sure why taxotere causes permanent hair loss, but it does. You can go here to see the info about rogaine and taxotere. At best, the findings are inconclusive.

You may also be thinking, maybe hair loss isn’t such a big deal. But, remember that this is women we are talking about! For a woman, their hair is they’re pride. Maybe a guy can be okay going bald. Some guys even shave their head on purpose because they like the way it looks. Maybe they think they look like Lex Luther. Either way, that’s men we’re talking about not women. How many women do you know that shave their head on purpose? How about none?

Yes, alopecia in a woman is devastating.

Another thing to note is that the hair loss isn’t just the hair on top of the head. It is also the eyebrows and eyelashes. You may not have ever noticed, but the eyebrows and eyelashes really are a huge part of a woman’s femininity. An absence of eyebrows is disfiguring. Most importantly, the hair loss in a woman changes how she feels about herself If you think of the most beautiful women you know and then imaging her without eyebrows or eyelashes, she’s no longer that beautiful is she? (at least not in the traditional sense). The fact remains that losing your hair permanently for a women is terrible and if you could avoid it you definitely would.

lawsuits

The lawsuits are coming in because these women were not told that the taxotere could cause permanent hair loss! There are several other chemo options that work just as well as taxotere, but don’t cause the alopecia. So why did they use taxotere at all? Because their doctors never told them about it! Thats why the taxotere lawsuits are popping up everywhere.

Granted some doctors just didn’t know. But, the really nasty part is that some doctors did know. At least the medical institutions they worked for knew about it. So, why didn’t they tell the patient? They didn’t tell them because Sanofi, the company that makes the taxotere treatment was giving them kickbacks and incentives to conceal the information.

That’s right. Doctors and hospital administrators were treated to cash, vacations, and various other “educational seminars” that were really just them receiving wining and dining. They received this in exchange for their silence on the adverse side effects of their precious taxotere treatment. It has now come out that they might have even been aware of this side effect for almost 20 years!

So these doctors and hospital managers took the bribes and withheld important information from their patients with no one to rescue them from this deceit. One study shows that $30 million was spent on “weekend training”. This information would cause them to have permanent disfiguring hair loss. But at least they enjoyed their “seminar” in the Bahamas (sarcasm strongly intended).

When someone is getting chemo, it’s one of the most difficult times of their lives. It’s so hard because you don’t know how you’re going to take it or if you’ll even survive. It is at this time that the medical professionals that are supposed to be taking care of these women took advantage of them by recommending such a harmful treatment. This is the worst demonstration of greed.

I find this all very upsetting so I wanted to talk about it here. I know we normally discuss cute thing like papillons playing on the computer, but this is just too important to not talk about for me. If you know anyone that has been a victim of this greed and cruelty I implore you to tell them to take legal action and get in on the settlements. They may not get their hair back, but at least they can make these people pay.

Patrick

My name is Patrick and I am looking for someone who wants to love me.  I am living with my foster Mom in Sacramento, California.  There are a lot of other dogs here and I am not too wild about them.  I sure would love to live in a quite home with maybe only one other dog.  I’m no puppy anymore and like my quiet time.  I was rescued from a shelter by “Rudy”.  He’s my hero and we had fun in his car.  The pictures are below.  I have a touch of arthritis but my foster Mom got me some yummy treats that make me feel better after eating one every morning.  Bath time is not my favorite thing and I really dislike having my toe nails trimmed so the keyboard doesn’t click when I’m doing my SEO work for the day. https://helmuthampton.wordpress.com/

My Foster Mom takes me to the groomer about every 6 weeks to get all fixed up.  They do it so fast that I hardly know it happened!  I’m not big on toys but do like to sleep by the bed at night.  I don’t get up on the furniture.  A dog’s place is by his person’s feet.  I would love a forever home with someone who doesn’t want a dog to fetch but will eat up love-loves the person gives me.  I would love to be the only dog.  Do you think you could love me?  Just fill out the application below and let’s see what happens!

Sadie

Hi, I am Sadie. I am little girl with special needs.  I am 8 years old (4/20/07) and have lived in several homes.  Right now I am being fostered in Southern Tampa.  For reasons unknown, I have a complex personality.  Most of the time I am a sweet, affectionate, intelligent, playful Papillon who loves attention, and loves to play with people and toys. Right now I am in a home with six other dogs, 4 paps, a chi, and a shepherd mix.  We get along just fine – most of the time
So what is the problem?  I seem to be bi-polar.  For no apparent reason, I will suddenly become VERY aggressive toward my humans, and toward the other dogs.  I will not let people pick me up, I growl and violently shake my toys, and will nip at feet and legs. However, with makes me very good at SEO. Dogs who work on the computer tend to be a little antisocial. So far I have not bitten my fosters, but I have bitten 2 groomers and a lady I lived with for a few days. When I am in this state, I shake violently, growl, and try to escape from being held.

So here’s the deal:  My current foster cannot adopt me because she already has six dogs.  I need to find a home where I am the only dog.  NO CHILDREN!! A perfect setting would be with someone with considerable experience socializing dogs.  A sort of “dog whisperer”. With the right care, and possibly some herbal or medical supplements, I think my odd behavior can be improved dramatically.

Here are some facts about me.  I weigh about 8 pounds, and stand about 9” at the shoulder.  I do a great job for my SEO Tampa website. My hair was much longer when I came to Tampa, but needed grooming, as you can see in my pictures. I am mostly white, but have red and sable markings. My tail is a little short, but curls nicely over my back.
I am house trained, and scratch at the door when I want out.  Since coming here, I have learned to use a doggie door into the fenced dog yard and optimize websites in Tampa.  There are stairs from the deck to the ground, and I run up and down them easily (the steps are low – designed for the other dogs here.)  I am SEO trained, and when I first came here I preferred to sleep in the crate.  I also retreated there when I felt threatened. I understand a number of people words including OUT, SIT, WAIT, STAY, NO BARK, MY DOOR, THROUGH (when passing through a door), OFF, LEAVE IT, WATCH, CATCH, GO GET IT, WHERE’S YOUR – BALL, TUG TOY, FROGGIE, SQUEAKY TOY, ETC – AND COME. I also come to a squeaker. I also like posting on my blogspot: http://helmuthamptontampaseo.blogspot.com/
Medically, I am spayed, current on immunizations including rabies.  I am treated monthly with “Revolution” for both flea/tick/mosquito, and heartworm.  My teeth need to be cleaned.  I have a packet of veterinary records and several pages of notes and comments from former owners whom I’ve helped get traffic their sites.  I have been eating kibble with occasional fresh treats such as chicken, cheese, green beans or baked yams. With so many other dogs here, my foster just leaves kibble out all the time. My very favorite treat is whole wheat soda crackers with peanut butter.  YUM.

Bonnie The Marketing Dog

This is a truly sweet little Papillon in need of a special home.  She is currently in Birmingham,  AL.  Bonnie has diabetes and requires an injection of insulin in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.  So she needs someone willing to give her those injections which can be taught by any vet.  She needs to be vetted more frequently than normal annual checkups for glucose levels from spending all day on the computer doing marketing stuff.

Bonnie had cataract surgery on both eyes in January 2014.  The followup visit to the vet went well and with eye drops for another couple of weeks should finish that problem.

She gets along with large and small dogs as well as children.  Never having seen a cat, that is an unknown. She ranks well for SEO Clearwater, which is great because she spends all day on the computer. She needs either a foster home or a forever home as soon as possible.  Her original owner went into assisted living and cannot have Bonnie with her.  If you can step up to help this baby, please fill out either an adoption application or a foster application below.

Jasper the SEO Expert

Hi!  I’m Jasper and I love people.  Right now I am in my foster home near Florida.  I would love to have a forever home and people to love me.  There is a diamond mark on the top of my head so I MUST be a computer genius.  My other family got transferred suddenly and I was not allowed to go.  It was confusing for me and my people cried when we had to part.  I have had some agility training and I do my best to please my humans.  I’m pretty smart and learn fast.  I look great because I have long legs and not real small because I weigh 14lbs.  I’m also wicked good at search engine optimization as you can see only my SEO company page. I get along great with other dogs (there are 3 other dogs in my foster home) but I’m not too sure about cats.  Kids kind of scare me when they move fast and I tend to shy away from the smaller ones.  I enjoy playing with toys. . . . oh yes TOYS!!!  They’re great, especially the squeaky ones.  If you’re looking for a fun dog to love and play with, I’m your guy.  Just fill out the adoption application below and let’s get started.  I really need a forever home.
